Equipment to help with daily living
How to get equipment, products and devices to help with everyday tasks like washing and dressing.
About daily living equipment
Daily living equipment are items that help people who have a disability, illness or health condition with everyday tasks.
Daily living equipment includes:
- shower chairs
- commodes
- bath lifts
- raised toilet seats
- chair raisers
- flashing doorbells, low-vision optical aids and listening devices for people with hearing or visual difficulties
You could get equipment if it'll increase your safety, or help you retain or regain skills. Getting equipment can also help avoid or delay the need to have care.
To get more information or advice about equipment, or to ask for an assessment.

Social care and NHS Community Equipment Services – change in provider
On 1 August 2025, we changed our community equipment supplier from NRS Healthcare to Millbrook Healthcare. Community equipment covers essential equipment and daily living aids such as mobility aids, hoists and hospital beds. These help people to live independently at home and support those being discharged from hospital
Like NRS, Millbrook are a national provider and are the current provide of community equipment in East and West Sussex. With our NHS partners we’re working closely with both providers to ensure as smooth a handover as possible.
The following information provides guidance for residents, carers and professionals during this transition.
I have daily living equipment from NRS. Do I need to give it back?
No, you don’t need to return your equipment because of the change in provider. Please continue to use it.
I am waiting for daily living equipment. Will I still get it?
Our new supplier will be fulfilling existing orders. There may be a short delay during the transition period, so please bear with us if this happens. If you have any concerns, please talk to the person who ordered the equipment.
What should I do if I need to return daily living equipment?
Initially we would ask that you hold onto the item until collections can be fully supported, but if this is not possible then we would ask that you use one of the provided containers at our two local waste collection sites.
Hove: off Old Shoreham Road, BN3 7AE (between Aldrington Avenue and Leighton Road)
Brighton: off Wilson Ave. Brighton, BN2 5PD
What should I do if my daily living equipment needs repairing?
If you have an urgent repair from 1 August, contact Millbrook. To contact Millbrook:
- phone on 01273 053254
- send an email to Contactusbrighton@millbrookhealthcare.co.uk
What if I need new daily living equipment?
If you’re assessed as needing new equipment, your occupational therapist, physiotherapist or nurse will discuss this with you, including how long it might take and what options are available to support you in the meantime.
My family member is in hospital. Will it affect their discharge?
Through our new supplier, we’ll continue to provide equipment to support those being discharged from hospital. There may be a short delay during the transition period, but we’re working hard to keep this to an absolute minimum.
Can I buy my own daily living equipment?
Yes, you can. Please contact the person who recommended your equipment for example your occupational therapist, physiotherapist or nurse. They will be able to give advice on what to purchase.
I have a pendant alarm supplied by the council. Do I need to do anything?
No. The monitoring and response service with Carelink Plus in Brighton & Hove is unaffected by this and will continue in the normal way.
What should I do if I receive any suspicious communications asking for payment?
We will never contact you asking for bank details. Those delivering equipment will be in uniform, will have an ID badge and will contact you before arriving to clarify details.
