About Beelzebab
Just up the road from Brighton’s clock tower on Queen’s Road is the Hope & Ruin pub. This is where Brighton & Hove’s award winning Vegan Doner Kebab food business, Beelzebab, is based. Luke, the owner of Beelzebab, is the proud owner of a Christiania long box ecargo bike, which he uses for food stalls in Brighton & Hove and the surrounding area.
Since receiving his cargo bike in late November 2023 and Luke has covered nearly 5,000 km. Previously to owning the cargo bike Luke did not have any transportation, so had to rely on other people to drive to venues, such as weddings, to cater at.
Now, with the Christiania cargo bike, and a customer made counter-top, Luke can pop-up at food festivals and occasions anywhere in the region, so people can try his delicious vegan hot dogs and kebabs.

The Christiania cargo bike has an enormous carrying capacity, holding up to 366 litres with a maximum load capacity of 100 kg. This enables Luke to carry plenty of food, equipment and little people on the school run.
"Having two batteries enables us to travel further afield for events. Fully loaded the bike still manages to scale some of Brighton's more challenging hills though pre-planning routes is required. The rain cover has been helpful and has meant we have been able to use it throughout the year.”
“The bike has enabled us to do many pop-ups throughout the year with no need for additional transport. It’s a great talking point with customers at events and allows us to pick-up stock from suppliers which we weren't previously able to do.”
The benefits of having an ecargo bike:
- Doubles up as a food vending stall
- Easy to park
- Large carrying capacity
- Nearly 5,000 km covered saving 1.4 tonnes of CO2e
