Dominic, who is a carpenter, plumber and general handy man with twenty years’ experience, is a lucky recipient of a Reise & Muller Packster 70. Since receiving it April this year he has clocked up over 370 km (230 miles) in Brighton & Hove.
" Acquiring an e-cargo bike through the council’s e-Cargo Bike Accelerator Project has had a huge impact on how I work, especially when it comes to jobs in the city centre and along the seafront. These areas can be really challenging when it comes to traffic and parking, but the e-cargo bike has made it so much easier to get around efficiently and without stress.”

Prior to using an ecargo bike for his work, Dominic used to use a Peugeot van to get about to local jobs and pick up suppliers. He found the costs of the van a drain on his income and found driving in traffic frustrating. He found driving particularly testing when looking for parking spaces near clients’ properties.
Since hearing about the council’s eCargo Bike Project, Dominic submitted a successful business case and is now the proud owner of a powerful ecargo bike which can carry most of his equipment.
Dominic still has his van but seldom uses it. He uses it only when he needs too, like at the start a job, then uses the ecargo bike for everything else. Using his cargo bike gives him much more flexibility because its quick and convenient and reduces stress.
“The e-cargo bike is practical, eco-friendly, and has made my working life in Brighton & Hove a whole lot easier and more enjoyable. It's also been a talking point, and lots of passers-by have shown interest in the bike, which has led to conversations regarding work.”
For Dom, having the cargo bike has resulted in:
- increased flexibility for local jobs
- parking being stress free
- travelling for work being more enjoyable
- approximately 140kg of CO2e saved to date
Switching to cargo bikes reduces the environmental and social impact of deliveries and services in our cities. This contributes towards Brighton & Hove City Council’s Carbon Neutral 2030 goal.
