Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Specialist services and expertise
In order to support children at the school, there is regular contact with a wide range of external agencies. These include:
- Speech and Language Team
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy Team
- Social care agencies
- Brighton & Hove Inclusion Support Service (BHISS)
BHISS is a service with highly skilled and experienced specialist professionals across autism support, sensory needs support, and support for specific learning issues.
The team includes educational psychologists, primary mental health workers, and specialist teachers and practitioners.
Specialist staff training
Staff training needs are assessed regularly. Recently, staff have attended training to support children in all areas of the curriculum and beyond. These include supporting pupils:
- on the autistic spectrum
- with attachment disorder
- with speech and language difficulties
- with sensory and physical needs
- with social and emotional needs
Specialist support is offered in English and Maths.
If a child joins the school with particular needs, we will work with outside agencies to train and support staff in the work they do.
