Peter Gladwin School is a mainstream one form entry primary school that serves the community of North Portslade. This school is for children who are 4 to 11 years old.

Specialist services and expertise

• BHISS - Brighton & Hove Inclusion Support Service, which includes: educational psychologists, family support workers, primary mental health workers, specialist SEN teachers and specialist SEN practitioners
• EMAS (Ethnic Minority Achievement Service)
• Occupational Therapy
• Speech and Language

Regular courses and in school training is provided to support staff in successfully meeting the needs of all our SEND pupils. This has included input from the Speech and Language Service to support the implementation of specialist programmes (like Talk Boost) and in class support for pupils identified with speech and language difficulties; targeted support for adults working with pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) including the ‘Just Right’ programme; a whole school Attachment Aware Behaviour Regulation approach, Emotion Coaching, and targeted support for INAs (individual needs assistants) to support children’s individual needs.

Teaching staff have accessed training in 

• Maths Mastery
• Talk for Writing
• Attachment Aware Trauma Informed Responses
• Emotion Coaching
• Phonics training and supporting Language needs in the classroom. 

Teachers also have access to BHISS support for recommendations and advice for the specific needs of children in their class for example, Autism Spectrum Condition, Visual Impairment, Language Delay and Disorders and Medical and Physical Disability needs.
