About
Sustainability expectations within early years are increasing. Alongside growing national focus on climate responsibility and long-term resource management, leaders are expected to demonstrate strong decision-making around wellbeing, staff practice, and responsible use of resources.
Many owners and managers are asking:
- what is actually required within EYFS?
- what is Ofsted really interested in?
- how do we implement sustainable practice without unsettling staff or families?
- how can sustainability strengthen — rather than destabilise — our setting?
Grounded in over 15 years of lived leadership experience within a sustainability-led early years setting, this session will explore how thoughtful, well-led sustainability can:
- improve child wellbeing and emotional regulation
- reduce low-level behaviour challenges
- strengthen staff confidence and retention
- reduce unnecessary waste and costs
- align clearly with EYFS and Ofsted Leadership & Management expectations
The workshop will clarify what is statutory, what is good practice, and how leaders can introduce change in ways that are calm, realistic and inspection-safe.
Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the Young Friends Sustainable Framework — a structured, practice-led approach designed to support long-term implementation without overwhelm.
