The Meerkat Trail is aimed at children aged three to six and their families but anyone can take part, whatever their age. It is a chance for adults and children to have fun, enjoy being out and about together and learn about local places where the Meerkats are hiding.
Prizes on offer
There are stickers to collect along the way and those who complete the trail will have a chance of winning a micro-scooter and a goody bag. Each of the Meerkats will be holding something different.
Children are encouraged to write down what they are holding on the back page of the Meerkat Trail booklet and return it to the council’s transport team by Friday 17 June to be in with a chance of winning a prize.
School holidays
The Meerkat Trail will run from Monday 25 March until Sunday 2 June 2019, a period which includes both the Easter school holidays and the May half term, although the trail can be completed at any time. Download the Meerkat Trail booklet.
Meerkat events
In addition to the trail, there are special events taking place throughout spring including:
- Meerkat Get Active Day at Moulsecoomb Library on 10 April from 10am to 1pm. Children will be able to meet the Walk to School mascot Piers the Meerkat, collect a prize for completing the trail and take part in lots of fun activities.
- Charity cake sale at Moulsecoomb train station. Come and support the ‘Embrace’ charity for disabled and special needs children with our cake sale on Saturday 11 May from 11am to 1pm. You will be able to take a photo with our Meerkat!
- The Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project. Visit this outdoor education charity supporting young people struggling at school and adults with learning disabilities. On Tuesdays and Fridays during the trail from 10am to 3pm, you can go in and look for mini-meerkats!
Active Travel funding
