Covid-19 tests must be pre-booked
We know that many Brighton & Hove residents are experiencing problems booking Covid-19 tests.
As a result some residents have tried to directly access the mobile testing unit at Withdean without booking ahead.
The mobile testing unit currently at Withdean Sports Complex is drive-in only for pre-booked appointments. You will not be able to get a test without an appointment.
The unit is not operated by Freedom Leisure or the council. Please do not phone the sports complex or walk up in the hope of getting a test on the day.
This weekend the mobile testing unit will be based at Brighton Racecourse. It is drive-in only and appointments will need to be booked in advance.
Please only book a test if you have symptoms
It is vital we can test people with symptoms to help stop the spread of the virus.
Nationally there is now very high demand for coronavirus tests. To help ensure the people that really need to get a test can please only request a test if you have covid symptoms or have been advised to do so.
If you don’t have coronavirus symptoms, and have not been advised to take a test by a doctor or a public health professional or by your local council, you should not book a test.
If you have been abroad and are quarantining, you should not get tested unless you have symptoms. A negative test result does not change the period of time that you will be required to quarantine.
Advice for getting a test
While the government works to resolve the national issues around testing, our advice is to keep trying to book or order a test through the NHS website or by calling 119.
If you have symptoms you need to self-isolate immediately for 10 days so you do not risk passing the virus on. Do not wait for a test or test results before isolating. If you live with other people, all household members also need to stay at home. Have a look at the guidance around self-isolating.
Thank you to everyone for playing your part. Following the guidance is the best way to reduce the risk of passing on Covid-19 to others.
Please continue to wash your hands regularly, wear face coverings where advised, maintain a safe distance, limit contact between households and follow the ‘rule of six’.
