Small businesses in the city will be able to start applying for a discretionary grant later this week.
We are currently designing the portal to enable businesses to apply through an online form. Information on the website will include a guide for applicants to help them complete the process and provide supporting information.
The criteria and application process were agreed by councillors at the Policy & Resources (Recovery) Sub-Committee on Friday, 29 May.
Brighton & Hove’s fund of around £3.7 million will provide small grants for some of our independent businesses who have not been eligible for the government’s small business grants.
Small businesses who could apply include those from the visitor economy, retail, events, creative and IT & digital, as well as charities and not-for-profit organisations. These reflect the core sectors identified in the Economic Strategy and our Corporate Plan priorities.
The applications will be assessed by an independent panel using the set criteria which includes local economic impact, carbon neutral commitment and what the business would use the money for.
