Have your say on the way local health and wellbeing decisions are made
Brighton & Hove’s Health & Wellbeing Board makes decisions about local health and care services.
We’re currently reviewing the way the board works to make sure it’s as effective as possible and we’d like residents to have their say on possible changes.
What is the Health & Wellbeing Board?
The board is made up of members from Brighton & Hove City Council (councillors and council officers), the local NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, Healthwatch Brighton & Hove and representatives from the local adult and children’s safeguarding partnerships.
The Health & Wellbeing Board is responsible for decisions around adult social care services, public health, and the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
Have your say on the future of the board
Proposals for changes to the board have been put forward by the board members but we’d really like to hear what local people think of these plans before making any final decisions.
They include:
- expanding the role of the board to include more oversight of local Covid planning and NHS strategies to manage this
- extending membership to other NHS provider trusts and the community & voluntary sector
- moving operational decisions to be discussed by other sub-committees so the board can focus on strategic, more far reaching decisions to do with health.
The survey asks for your opinion on:
- the role of the Health & Wellbeing Board
- membership of the board
- public engagement with the board
- the focus and types of decisions made by the board
Find out more about the proposals and complete the survey.
The deadline for responding is Monday 4 January.
Your feedback will be discussed at the next Health & Wellbeing Board in January 2021 before any changes are put in place.
Chair of the Health & Wellbeing Board, Councillor Sue Shanks says:
“I’m proud to chair Brighton & Hove’s Health & Wellbeing Board. In my time, first as a member of the board and now as the chair, we’ve made decisions that impact how local health services are delivered, approved the local health & wellbeing strategy, and been involved in decisions around Covid-19.
“The board makes decisions that affect the lives of individuals and organisations in our in our city so it’s really important that everyone is given a chance to have their say on how those decisions are managed and who is involved.
“We want the board to be able to provide even stronger leadership and be more representative of the organisations who are providing local health and care services.”
