The popular Prince Regent Swimming Complex will re-open on Monday 19 October with new and improved lighting and heating systems.
While the centre has been closed during lockdown, there has been the opportunity to carry out major projects including replacing the old lighting system in the pool hall with new LED lighting and installing a more energy efficient ‘on demand’ water heating system.
Further plans to replace the air handling units (AHU) later this year have been rearranged for Easter 2021.
The re-opening on Monday, means that all the city’s leisure centres operated by Freedom Leisure are now back in business and available to the community.
Additional safety measures have been meticulously planned and put in place at the centre to reassure visitors. All staff have received training on the new protocols and the importance of supporting customers to safely return to activity and fitness.
The summer months saw a huge increase in the number of people regularly exercising outdoors – a welcome activity during the many months of lockdown.
Now, as the new restrictions look to continue well into the winter and beyond, the government is urging people to continue with their fitness regimes.
And as the evenings get darker and the weather colder, local leisure centres provide a safe and welcoming space to be active.
Leisure centres also provide valuable opportunities to be around people during these times of social restriction.

Councillor Marianna Ebel, joint chair of the Tourism, Equalities, Communities & Culture Committee added: “Staff at Freedom Leisure have worked extremely hard to prepare our popular leisure centres for re-opening and to welcome back their customers to a safe and secure environment.
“We know that for many residents, and especially those in the city centre, the re-opening of the Prince Regent will be long awaited and welcome news. We are glad that swimmers of all ages from across Brighton & Hove can once again access this space.”

Councillors have agreed to the phased re-opening of more leisure centres, starting with the King Alfred Leisure Centre, which opens some facilities on 15 August.
Proposals have been published to open four more leisure centres in Brighton & Hove. Councillors will decide on the phased re-opening at a special meeting next week.
The King Alfred Leisure Centre will reopen on Saturday 15 August, with the swimming pool opening two days later on Monday 17 August.
