Minister impressed with progress at Brighton & Hove’s new Youth Employment Hub

Minister for Employment, Mims Davies MP praised the team behind Brighton & Hove’s new Youth Employment Hub on a visit to the city this week.

The Hub opened in June to support local 16-25 year olds into training, education and jobs. Since opening, 270 young people have used the hub and received support to:

• Write CVs, complete job applications and practise interview skills
• Access internet, printing and scanning facilities
• Access a quiet and safe space for advice, planning, and active job seeking
• Access free pre-loved interview clothes through a partnership with Revival Work Clothes

Partnership working

The creation and running of the hub is a joint partnership between Brighton & Hove City Council and the department for work and pensions (DWP).

On-site support is provided by a dedicated team of people from the council’s employability services, the National Careers Service and DWP coaches.

Access to a wealth of information is also available online through the Youth Employment Hub’s digital platform

Minister for Employment, Mims Davies said: “It was fantastic to meet the team at the Youth Employment Hub and hear about the invaluable support they are providing to local young people and the valuable local partnership they have with DWP.”

“From Youth Hubs and the Kickstart scheme to apprenticeships and dedicated Work Coaches, our Plan for Jobs is supporting young people in Brighton and beyond to get into work, progress, and maximise their potential.”

Chair of the council’s Children, Young People & Skills committee, Councillor Hannah Clare added: “We’re very proud of our Youth Employment Hub and the brilliant team behind it.

“We are already seeing the benefits it is providing to our young people in terms of job and career progression and because there is a dedicated space for them to build their confidence and skills”.
