Retirement of Senior Coroner for Brighton & Hove
Senior Coroner for Brighton & Hove, Veronica Hamilton Deeley, has retired after many years of public duty to the city's residents and their families.
She has been the city’s Coroner for over thirty years and like all Coroners, has treated the role as a vocation and a privilege. Families and the bereaved are always at the heart of the investigation and inquest process.
In the city, over her years of public service, Miss Hamilton-Deeley has introduced many innovations and different ways for working which have given the city its justified reputation for the excellence of its Coroners service.
When asked to comment, Miss Hamilton Deeley said: “It has been an absolute honour to look after my dead dears and their families and friends.
"I shall miss them all and the colleagues I have worked with over the years, more than I can say.
"The Coroner’s service is not just provided by one person. Nothing that I may have achieved, could have been done without the commitment and devotion over many years, of my Coroners Officers, my Assistant Coroners, my Administration and my mortuary teams and all those who have so ably supported them.”
Interim arrangements are being put in place by the council and the Bereavement Services Team and coroners will continue to provide a dedicated and sensitive service to Brighton & Hove's deceased citizens and the bereaved.
