Shoreham Harbour Eco-towns funding to support climate change and biodiversity Projects
£460,000 of grant funding is being released to support climate change and biodiversity projects in the Shoreham Harbour Regeneration Area.
The proposal was approved by the new Strategy, Finance & City Regeneration Committee on 22 June 2023, following agreement by the Shoreham Harbour Regeneration partners. Projects which support green travel corridors and active travel and which lie along travel routes close to the harbour will be prioritised.
Brighton & Hove City Council, Adur District Council, West Sussex County Council and Shoreham Port Authority are working together to regenerate Shoreham Harbour and surrounding areas.
The partners’ vision is that by 2031 Shoreham Harbour will be transformed into a vibrant, thriving waterfront destination and that the enhanced Shoreham Port will continue to play a vital role in the local economy.
The fund is part of the £750k of Government EcoTowns grant secured by the partnership. Approximately one third of the regeneration area is in Brighton & Hove, and two thirds in Adur. The committee agreed a proposal that the funding split reflects this.
Council Leader Bella Sankey said: “The exciting redevelopment of Shoreham Harbour will provide real benefits for the local community and our city’s economy.
“We are resolutely committed to making Brighton & Hove a carbon neutral city by 2030. Projects which address climate change and biodiversity will be prioritised for this funding, helping create a cleaner, greener South Portslade.”
