Two minute silence for victims of the Israel Gaza war
A 2 minute silence is being held at today’s Full Council meeting in recognition of innocent Israelis, Palestinians and others who have lost their lives, been taken hostage or affected by the Israel Gaza war.
Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, Councillor Bella Sankey, said: “It’s important to have this moment to pause and reflect on the traumatic events of the past 2 weeks.
“Our thoughts are with the children, families and communities that have experienced devastating loss and we are particularly mindful of our Jewish and Palestinian residents who may have family and friends caught up in the conflict. We are here to support you, and we send you our love and solidarity.
“We hope humanitarian access is provided to allow food, water, electricity and medicine to be available to those who need it, and for keep alive a flame of hope for peace in a region that has known much bloodshed and suffering.
“As a City of Sanctuary, we will not tolerate anyone glorifying acts of terrorism nor committing antisemitic or Islamophobic hate crimes.
“I am in touch with Sussex Police concerning the safety and security of our residents in Brighton & Hove. We do not tolerate hate in any form.”
