Alcohol Awareness Week - understanding alcohol harm
We’re supporting this year’s Alcohol Awareness Week, led by Alcohol Change UK, which encourages us all to talk about the ways in which alcohol harm affects us, and how this ripples out to our families, friends, communities, and broader society.
By opening conversations about alcohol harm and helping to reduce it, we can create an environment where it’s easier for us to make more informed choices about our drinking.
Every day in the UK more than 20 people die because of alcohol. Alcohol harm – mental health problems, liver disease, one of seven forms of cancer, economic difficulties, and so much more – can affect any one of us.
Local information
There will be an information stall in Hove Town Hall Customer Service Centre from 1 to 5 July, and we are supporting Alcohol Awareness Week locally with support from Change Grow Live (CGL).
CGL will be hosting information stalls at Wish Park Surgery Hove, Co-op in Mile Oak, the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Whitehawk foodbank in St Cuthman’s Church, and in Jubilee Library with our cancer prevention and road safety teams.
Alcohol Awareness Week
Alcohol Awareness Week is a chance for the UK to get thinking about drinking. It is a week of awareness raising, campaigning for change, and educating. This year the week takes place from 1 to 7 July 2024 on the theme of ‘Understanding alcohol harm’.
The week is led by Alcohol Change UK – an organisation working for a society free from the harm caused by alcohol. It creates evidence-driven change by working towards five key changes: improved knowledge, better policies, and regulation, shifted cultural norms, improved drinking behaviours, and more and better support and treatment.
