Remembrance events planned across the city
Services, parades and ceremonies are being held across the city to mark this year’s Remembrance Day, to pay tributes to the armed forces and to remember all victims of conflict.
The services will be attended by civic leaders with all events open to members of public who wish to attend.
Remembrance events begin on Thursday 7 November and will continue over the weekend, concluding on Monday 11 November, which marks Armistice Day itself.
Supporting Remembrance
Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, the council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Remembrance Day is an opportunity for everyone to stop for a moment to remember and honour the sacrifice of all those who have lost their lives through conflict. In Brighton & Hove, we will also mark those from the city who are serving soldiers or reserves.
“It’s a time for people across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to unite in hope for peace and end of conflict.
“This year, we’re proud to have allocated extra funding to support Remembrance events to make sure our communities continue to mark the occasion with the meaning and dignity it deserves.
“We’ve commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, remembered fallen soldiers in the Battle of Boar’s Head and honoured Undivided Indian soldiers who fought for our country at a multi-faith event at the Royal Pavilion Garden.
“I invite everyone to join in on a community event or just take a quiet moment on their own to remember those who gave their life for their country and reflect on the devastating effects of wars and hatred.”
