We’re asking residents for their views on our plans to make several busy junctions safer.
Consultations are starting today (Monday 8 July) on four areas of the city prioritised by our Safer, Better Streets programme.
They are:
- the junction of Nevill Avenue and Holmes Avenue in Hove
- the junction of Surrenden Road and Preston Drove in Brighton
- the junction of Clarendon Villas, Eaton Villas and Goldstone Villas in Hove
- the Elm Grove junctions with Bonchurch Road and Hampden Road in Brighton
Changes being proposed include new zebra crossings, pedestrian crossings and wider pavements.

Letters are being sent to residents living in each area to let them know about the consultations and telling them how they can have their say.
Residents have until the 2 September to give us their views. They’ll be taken into consideration before designs are finalised with work expected to start sometime next year.
Have your say
Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet Member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm said: “It’s important we do all we can to improve the safety of our streets and these four schemes will make a big difference.
“Safer, Better Streets means takes a data-led approach to improving safety, but the views of residents play a huge part in making sure schemes will work for everyone.
“I’d encourage residents, especially those who live, work and travel near the schemes, to give us their feedback and help make the streets of Brighton & Hove safer in each community.

Safer, Better Streets
We get dozens of road safety requests from residents every year,
Our Safer, Better Streets framework uses 16 different categories to assess and score them.
They include casualty data, but also social factors like access to key services, walking and cycling, traffic counts, accessibility, and the perception of danger.
A list of the top 10 are then presented to councillors to approve.
