Apply now for Fairness Fund for Communities 2025/26
The Fairness Fund for Communities 2025/26 is now open for applications from local community and voluntary sector groups.
The fund is offering grants of £2,000 for projects that support the council’s ambition of creating a fairer, healthier, more inclusive city that works for all.
In the first round, a few of the fantastic projects the Fairness Fund supported included a low energy low-cost cooking scheme; English and digital classes for the Moulsecoomb Bangladeshi Women’s Group; a ‘Sewing to Save’ project for global majority women; one-stop-shop services at the Village Food Bank CIC; and Brighton Pebbles supporting families of disabled children.
The Fairness Fund for People and Place
The Fairness Fund for Communities provides one-off funding of £2,000 to community groups for activities that will help residents experiencing poverty and the cost-of-living crisis.
The fund forms part of our support for community groups working to build community cohesion and reduce barriers, helping Brighton & Hove to be an inclusive, accessible and fair city where everyone can thrive.
The Fairness Fund has 2 parts.
The Fairness Fund for People supports grass-roots community action led by and supporting disabled, Black and racially minoritised or LGBTQ+ people experiencing poverty and marginalisation.
A total fund of £70,000 is available and this fund will be allocated to projects supporting the 3 different communities.
The Fairness Fund for Place supports grass-roots community action led by and supporting communities experiencing poverty in their neighbourhood.
A total fund of £105,000 is available and this will be divided equally across 4 areas of the city. Responding to community feedback, we are opening the fund this year to low-income not-for-profit community buildings too, that deliver anti-poverty and cost of living activities in their spaces.
Supporting a fairer, healthier and more inclusive city
Councillor Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We set up the Brighton & Hove Fairness Fund originally, to draw together various funding streams that will provide an ongoing safety net to support our residents most in need.
“The funding supports so many fantastic community projects, all who work so hard to make our city a fairer, healthier and more inclusive place to live and work. Projects which make a real difference to our communities and create impactful, positive opportunities for our residents. We especially encourage groups to apply with projects that encourage community cohesion.
“We’ve set up the application process to be as accessible as possible, to make sure that our smaller grass-roots groups have the opportunity to benefit.”
