Become a childminder – because every child needs a superhero
We’ve launched a new city-wide campaign to recruit more 'childcare superheroes' in Brighton & Hove and to spotlight the dedicated, compassionate and inspiring childminders across the city.
The campaign aims to encourage more people to begin a rewarding and flexible career as a childminder.
Why should I become a childminder?
Childminding is a fantastic opportunity for people to build a meaningful career while working either from home or community hall, or partnering with a local school.
With the flexibility to set your own hours and the ability to shape your business to suit individual strengths, becoming a registered childminder offers both professional satisfaction and financial stability in a high-demand industry.
We offer a unique, personalised package of support to all childminders, including:
- One-to-one support from an experienced childminding development officer
- A £600 wraparound childminder grant to cover business start-up costs
- Ongoing training and networking opportunities
Inspiring young minds
Councillor Emma Daniel, Cabinet member for Children, Families and Youth Services, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve launched this campaign highlighting childminding as a flexible and fulfilling career where you can inspire young minds.
“Childcare workers are superheroes and play a crucial role in early years education. We currently have 57 Ofsted-registered childminders in Brighton & Hove, but we need more providers to meet the rising demand for childcare.
“If you love working with children and would like to run your own business and be your own boss, come along to one of our free monthly childminder information sessions to learn more about this exciting opportunity.”
National Childminding Week picnic
To mark National Childminding Week (10 to 16 May), we held our annual childminder picnic at Preston Park, Brighton, on Monday 12 May.
We were joined by childminders from across the city and their little ones for a day of nature-based outdoor play and learning.
The event included:
- Outdoor games and challenges with our Healthy Lifestyles team
- Music, movement and singing with BoogieMites
- An interactive storytelling session with Debutots
- Nature exploration to inspire curiosity and discovery
- An oral health storytelling session to teach children the importance of brushing their teeth, visiting the dentist and eating healthily
