Celebrating Kinship Care Week 2025
As part of our ongoing commitment to celebrate the incredible contribution of kinship carers in Brighton & Hove, we are marking Kinship Care Week (6 to 12 October) with a tea party hosted by the Kinship Care Support Group.
This is an opportunity for our kinship carers to come together, share their experiences and recognise the vital role of kinship care in the city and beyond.
If you’d like to join us at the tea party on Friday 10 October from 10.30am to 12.30pm, RSVP to kinshipcareadmin@brighton-hove.gov.uk. The event will take place at the Nest, Portslade Hub, Mile Oak Road, BN41 2PG.
What is kinship care?
Kinship carers are family, friends or connected people who step up to care for a child when their parents aren’t able to.
Kinship carers are usually grandparents, aunts or uncles, brothers or sisters, a stepparent, stepbrother or stepsister, or someone who isn’t related to the child but knows them well.
Whatever their relationship to the child, kinship care is a commitment to provide a safe, stable, and supportive permanent home and bring love and hope to a child who has experienced trauma.
Crucial role
Councillor Emma Daniel, Cabinet member for Children, Families and Youth Services, said: “Kinship Care Week is an important opportunity for us to all reflect on and celebrate the vital contribution kinship carers make to improving the lives of children and young people across Brighton & Hove.
“Kinship carers play a crucial role supporting some of our most vulnerable children and young people by providing a caring and nurturing environment when their parents aren’t able to.
“If you’re a kinship carer, please do join us at our kinship celebration tea party at Portslade Hub on Friday 10 October.”
