Celebrating Portslade History Day
City residents are invited to help celebrate 1,000 years of Portslade’s rich history at a free, all-day event on September 6.
Visitors to the annual Portslade History Day can enjoy tours of a medieval manor house ruins, 17th century village and a former convent.
There’ll also be talks by leading experts on topics ranging from Brighton pubs and theatres, Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club in the 1950s, to the history of the lawnmower.
Free activities
Set within the grounds of the Medieval Manor House, there will be lots of free activities for the kids, including:
- Medieval art
- Tudor costume dressing up
- Peasant games
- Meet the archaeologists (lots of old bones and skulls!)
The event is organised by Fresh Start Portslade and supported by the Heritage Fund.
Celebrating 1,000 years
