HRH The Duke of Gloucester's visit to the Royal Pavilion

His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, Royal Patron of Brighton & Hove Museums, visited the Royal Pavilion & Garden this week to learn about the ongoing renovation work and engage with key figures from the organisation. 

This marks his first visit as Royal Patron, a role he recently assumed following the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III.

Arriving on the morning of 27 March 2025, The Duke was welcomed by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Andrew Blackman, before meeting local dignitaries, including the High Sheriff of East Sussex, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, and Hedley Swain, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Museums which manages the Royal Pavilion Estate on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council.

His Royal Highness toured the Royal Pavilion Garden to hear about the National Heritage Lottery funded project to restore the Garden and meet the Head Gardener, garden volunteers, and representatives from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. He also toured the Pavilion’s interior, meeting key staff members, including some of the longest-serving employees.

The visit also highlighted the Royal Pavilion’s new exhibition, COLOUR, which explores the vibrant and innovative use of colour throughout the historic palace’s design and decoration.

The Duke of Gloucester is the youngest grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary. He carries out numerous public duties in support of the King and holds patronage with various organisations, particularly in the fields of architecture, heritage, and conservation.
