Inspiring a new generation of female leaders
Council Leader Bella Sankey spoke at a panel discussion hosted by Varndean School in honour of International Women’s Day on Friday 14 March, celebrating the achievements of women and girls and inspiring them to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
Councillor Sankey joined a panel of trailblazing women leading the way in their respective industries, including MP Sian Berry, infectious disease scientist Rebecca Wilson, professional footballer and coach Sammy Quayle and gym owner Jane Heathwood.
The landmark event honoured the incredible talents and successes within the Varndean school community, including reflecting on the legacy of its founder, Ethel Ellis, whose vision laid the foundation for a century of empowering education.
Throughout the afternoon, senior students led engaging discussions, asking thought-provoking questions about leadership, resilience, and the power of using one’s voice.
Families, staff and students listened to the panellists’ insights, reinforcing the message that no dream is too big and no goal out of reach.
Attendees also enjoyed workshops, interactive displays and the opportunity to connect with role models who are making a difference.
The International Women’s Day Panel is set to become an annual tradition, ensuring that the stories of inspirational women and girls will continue to empower future generations.
