New surface for Hillside in Bevendean
Work to make the streets of Brighton & Hove smoother and safer continued last week with the resurfacing of Hillside in Bevendean.
The work was part of our ongoing programme to improve the condition of the city’s streets, fix potholes and other damage and extend the life of our roads.
The new surface between the junctions of Widdicombe Way and The Avenue is smoother and safer for motorists, bus passengers and cyclists – and was completed in just two days.
Improving the city’s roads
Councillor Trevor Muten, Cabinet member for Transport, Parking and Public Realm, said: “Tackling potholes and improving our roads is a key priority for this council, so I was very pleased to see improvements for Hillside when I visited last week along with Councillor Jacob Taylor
“After many years of underinvestment, the condition of our road surfaces in many parts of the city is unacceptable.
“This is why we welcome the large increase in grant funding for road maintenance recently announced by central government. This means Brighton & Hove has up to £1.6 million more this year compared with last year to spend on roads, pavements and other highway assets.
“We’ll soon be bringing a report to Cabinet that will include a plan to deal with them – and we’ll be using additional funding from Government to help us do this.”
