Scoot along to our free seafront photographic exhibition
An exhibition of photographs celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Brighton Mod Weekender opens at Brighton & Hove City Council’s Seafront Gallery this weekend.
Taken by photographer David Clarke (Dammo photography) and selected from his book ‘Through My Eyes’, the selection of iconic photos were shot over the last decade of the popular Brighton Mod Weekender.
The pictures will be on display at the gallery, on Brighton seafront next to the i360 and Upside Down House, from August 21 – 31.
Brighton Mod Weekender
Since 2005, Mods from all over the world have gathered on the seafront over the August Bank Holiday to celebrate the Brighton Mod Weekender
Organised by The New Untouchables, the event welcomes hundreds of scooters to the seafront near The Volks Railway, replicating the iconic film Quadrophenia.
Today, the event is popular with residents and visitors, but the city was not always ready to embrace this period in history. During the hedonistic days of the mid-sixties and the eighties Mod revival years, Mods were banned from even stepping onto the pier!
Shining scooters!
Councillor Birgit Miller, Cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Tourism said: “It’s always a treat to see hundreds of shining scooters lined up along the seafront as we welcome the Mod Weekender to the city.
“We are delighted to join the 20th Anniversary celebrations by hosting this unique free photographic exhibition at our seafront gallery which brilliantly captures this iconic, nostalgic and much loved event.”
Brighton Mod Weekender 2025 offers a programme of events over the weekend, from DJs and bands, to a ‘rideout’ and scooter competition.
