Brighton & Hove responds to government’s Local Government Reorganisation consultation
The government’s statutory consultation on proposals to change how local government is structured across Sussex has now closed. Brighton & Hove City Council has submitted its official response to the consultation.
Councillor Bella Sankey, Leader of the Council, said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views with the government. Your input matters and helps ensure that any future decisions reflect the needs and priorities of our city and Sussex as a whole.
"Whatever the outcome, our focus will remain on stable services and clear accountability.”
Next stages
- Government ministers will review responses from statutory consultees and other respondents, alongside wider evidence.
- A decision by the Secretary of State is expected in spring 2026.
- If changes are approved, new councils would become fully operational from April 2028.
