An exciting opportunity to represent the city’s business community at the highest level and help shape the future of the local economy is on offer, as the Brighton & Hove Business Growth Board looks to appoint a new Chair.
The role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced leader to influence the delivery of the city’s Economic Plan and to champion inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The Chair will play a pivotal strategic role at a critical moment for Brighton & Hove, providing leadership to the Business Growth Board and helping to embed a strong, diverse business voice in economic decision‑making.

As an ambassador for the city’s business community, the Chair will foster collaboration across business, public, voluntary, community and academic partners, ensuring that Brighton & Hove continues to thrive as a dynamic and inclusive place to live and work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Chairing quarterly Board meetings and overseeing Executive Committee sessions Providing strategic leadership for the delivery of the city’s Economic Plan and related strategies
- Acting as a principal advocate for Brighton & Hove’s business interests at local, regional and national levels
- Supporting diverse and inclusive representation on the Board
- Advising strategic partnerships such as the Greater Brighton City Region
- Overseeing Board governance, effectiveness reviews and major city business events.
Applicants should have significant senior leadership experience in business, the public sector or civic organisations, a strong understanding of economic development, strategic planning and partnership working, and experience of chairing boards or groups with diverse stakeholder representation.
A clear commitment to diversity, inclusion and the long‑term economic and social wellbeing of Brighton & Hove is essential.
