Footpath improvement work starts this week
Work starts later this week to upgrade and improve the popular footpath from Coldean into Stanmer Park.
The work follows extensive ash dieback and tree management which took place in January, to prepare the site for the footpath improvements.
Funded by a grant from the South Downs National Park Authority, the project will transform the footpath, which runs from Coldean Lane A270 Junction, opposite the Ruby pub up to the footbridge over the A27 and into Stanmer Park.
Diversions in place
The new footpath will be constructed by installing a grid system with an overlay of stone and grit. This will improve access and create a safer, less slippery surface, particularly during wet weather, on the steeper sections of the route.
The footpath will be closed for 4 weeks while work is carried out, with walkers diverted via the upper footbridge.
Councillor Alan Robins, Cabinet Member for Sport, Recreation and Libraries, said: “Now the weather has improved, it’s great that we can move forward with work to improve this well-used footpath, which I’m sure will be welcomed by local people and park users.”
