It’s time to have your say on a Better Brighton & Hove

Residents across the city are being invited to choose from a range of exciting ideas and projects to improve life in their ward.

The suggestions have been submitted as part of the council’s Better Brighton & Hove Fund, which will see money raised through developer contributions used to enhance council-owned spaces and community facilities across the city. 

Huge response

Last year, residents were invited to put forward suggestions on how to improve life in their neighbourhoods, on the council's Your Voice platform. 

It attracted a huge response, with residents submitting an amazing 930 ideas on how to spend £750,000 of Better Brighton & Hove funding.

The suggestions revealed a fantastic spread of priorities, with proposals ranging from new play areas, community allotments and street art projects to accessibility improvements, green spaces and public safety measures. 

All the ideas submitted have now been looked at by ward councillors and officers, and all projects that met the fund’s criteria, and are possible, have been taken forward.

Now residents are being asked to choose their top five proposals.

Councillor Jacob Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and City Regeneration, said: “We were amazed and delighted to receive such a fantastic response to our consultation, and I'd like to thank everyone who submitted an idea - your creativity and commitment to improving life in your wards has been  inspiring.

“Such a strong response shows how much people care about shaping their local area. Involving residents in decision-making is a huge priority for us and these ideas will help create vibrant, inclusive spaces that benefit everyone.

“Now the shortlist has been revealed, it’s back to you to let us know which are your favourites.”

Choose your favourites

Residents have until 5 May to select up to five of the projects in their ward, using the council’s Your Voice platform. Most areas have a wide range of proposals to choose from, requiring various amounts of funding.

Residents’ preferences will give ward councillors a clear idea of which projects are most popular and matter most to local people, helping them to ensure the projects they choose reflect community priorities and offer value for money.

Each ward will be assessed individually, and results shared as the final decisions are made. Successful projects will then receive funding and start to be delivered later this year.
