Overnight deep cleaning underway
A new overnight deep cleaning team has begun working in Brighton & Hove as part of our efforts to improve the look and feel of the city.
We officially launched the service this week after a trial run last Thursday night into Friday morning.
Our team will focus on carrying out work which would be difficult to do during the day when businesses are open and the streets are busy.
Noticeable improvements
This includes jet-washing, graffiti removal and repainting street furniture, with the aim that it will produce very visible and noticeable improvements, particularly in the city centre.
It is a model already successfully adopted by other councils, including Westminster, with the work of the new team complementing ongoing work from colleagues operating during the day.
Starting by Churchill Square
That daytime team remains responsible for work like clearing litter, responding to fly-tipping and maintaining hygiene and safety standards in public spaces.
The overnight team is being led by our city centre manager and has begun by targeting the bus stops by Churchill Square, with the initial phase of work set to continue up to Montpellier Road.
