Skills & Employment Service achieves Matrix Standard
Our Skills & Employment Service has successfully gained Matrix Standard accreditation following a 3-day independent review carried out in April 2026.
Matrix is the international quality standard for organisations that deliver information, advice and guidance (IAG) as part of their service. The Matrix Standard is owned by the Department for Education and is managed by The Growth Company on their behalf.
The accreditation confirms that the service is meeting national expectations for high high‑quality, impartial information, advice and guidance and continues to play a key role in supporting residents into learning, training and employment.
The assessor confirmed that the council meets the standard across our Adult Skills Hub, Youth Employability Service, Youth Employment Hub, Local Employment Scheme and Connect to Work programme.
The review highlighted:
- the quality and consistency of support provided to residents
- strong partnerships with local organisations and employers
- effective outreach to residents facing multiple barriers to employment
- a clear focus on continuous improvement and responsiveness to local need
Demonstrating best practice
Councillor Emma Daniel, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Youth Services, said: “I’m delighted that our Skills & Employment Service has achieved the Matrix Standard, which demonstrates best practice in information, advice and guidance.
“This is a brilliant achievement that reflects our commitment to building a thriving local economy in Brighton & Hove while ensuring residents can access support to find and stay in meaningful employment.
“I’d like to congratulate all of our Skills & Employment staff and thank those that were involved in the assessment for their support and cooperation throughout this process.”
Fantastic achievement
Roger Chapman, Head of the Matrix Service for The Growth Company, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Brighton & Hove City Council and I would like to congratulate the team on their success.
“We believe that at the heart of high-quality advice and support services are strong leadership, excellent service and a focus on continuous improvement, all underpinned by effective use of the resources available.
“The Matrix Standard is designed to benchmark organisations against best practice in these areas. With their accreditation success, the skills and employment service is working to provide the best possible support to their clients.”
