Kate Barker, our new Alternative Provision (AP) Lead and Development Officer, and Katie Rowe, our new AP Commissioner, are now in post. They are developing the AP offer in Brighton and Hove.
These appointments are key milestones in our Local Area Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy.
What Alternative Provision is
Alternative Provision can be a successful education option for pupils who need support to increase educational engagement. It can also help pupils gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Alternative Provision (AP) Quality Assurance Process
The Alternative Provision (AP) Quality Assurance Process has been created to support schools to secure high-quality provision for children and young people across Brighton & Hove.
Everyone is responsible for keeping children safe in education so all stakeholders must work together to safeguard children.
The AP Quality Assurance Process outlines the checks undertaken by the local authority (Brighton & Hove City Council) on the providers in the AP directory.
As part of the AP Quality Assurance Process, schools (the commissioners) are recommended to undertake additional quality assurance and safeguarding checks to satisfy themselves with the quality and appropriateness of the provision for individual children and young people.
If you have any questions about AP, contact your child's school.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work towards improving our services.
