Brighton & Hove City Council is the data controller for this survey. This means the council is responsible for how your personal data is collected, used, and protected.
The council is working with the Behaviour Change Network, an independent behaviour change consultancy specialising in research, insight, and service improvement. They have been appointed to support the council in understanding resident behaviours and improving waste and recycling services.
The Behaviour Change Network is acting on behalf of the council only and will process data solely for the purposes set out in this notice.
Lawful basis for processing
The council processes this data under Article 6(1)(e)of the UK GDPR -the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority (known as a public task)
All data will be handled in accordance with:
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR)
- The Data Protection Act 2018
What information we collect
We collect information that you choose to provide as part of this survey. This may include:
- your views, opinions, and behaviours relating to waste and recycling
- responses to multiple choice and rating questions
- free-text responses (comments or feedback)
- some demographic information (where requested)
How we use your information
Your information will be used to:
- understand residents' behaviours, attitudes, and barriers
- improve waste and recycling services
- inform communications and service design
- support decision making and future policy development
Who we will share your data with
Your full survey responses, including any free-text answers, will be shared with the Behaviour Change Network for this project.
The Behaviour Change Network will use this data solely to analyse responses and develop insights and recommendations to improve services. They will not use your data for any other purpose.
All analysis and reporting will be anonymised and aggregated. This means:
- individuals will not be identified
- quotes may be used, but will not be linked to identifiable individuals
- findings will be presented at a group or population level
How we keep your data safe
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:
- secure data storage systems
- restricted access to authorised personnel only
How long we keep your data (retention)
Your data will only be retained for as long as necessary to carry out the purposes outlined above and will then be securely deleted in line with council policies.
