About this privacy notice
Brighton & Hove City Council is the data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679.

Purposes and lawful basis of processing
We collect your data to monitor and evaluate opinions on enforcement changes introduced by the designation of red routes along Western Road (from Holland Road to Montpelier Road).
This is funded by the Bus Service Improvement Plan and is a condition of funding from the Department for Transport.
Our lawful bases for processing your data are:
- GDPR Art.6(1)(c): Compliance with a legal obligation under S.3 Local Government Act 1999
- GDPR Art.9(2)(g): Substantial public interest under Data Protection Act 2018 Schedule 1 Part 2 (8)(1) (equality of opportunity or treatment) and under Section 1(1) Equality Act 2010
We also collect data for equalities monitoring of residents participating in our consultation process around new parking proposals. The lawful basis for processing special category data is substantial public interest in line with the Equalities Act 2010.
What data we may collect
Personal data:
- contact details - name, address, email address, telephone number
- social and personal circumstances
Special category data:
- physical or mental health details
- racial or ethnic origin
- religious beliefs
- gender and sexual orientation
Who we'll chare the data with
Your information will only be shared with other City Infrastructure officers for the purposes of analysis and reporting, or with third parties if we are under a legal obligation to do so.
How long we'll hold your data (retention)
We will retain your data based on:
- the type of services you received and whether you’re still receiving them
- whether we are still under a legal obligation to you or under UK law
- standards and guidance set by regulators
- your preferences, for example if you exercise your right to restrict processing
For equalities monitoring, your data will be held until a final decision on the residents parking scheme has been reached by the Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee.
How we will store your data
Your information will be stored in electronic databases, document management systems, and/or on paper records.
Security measures include:
- staff training on secure information handling
- encryption of data in transit
- pseudonymisation where possible
- access controls
- regular technology and process testing and updates
International data transfers
Your information is/is not processed outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) (please specify as appropriate).
