About the business
Harriet’s of Hove was set up by Harriet and her husband in 2018. Sustainability is at the heart of the business selling environmentally friendly, plastic free, food and products.
Harriet employs 8 part-time staff and one of which, Regina, is fully trained to use the ecargo bike for local deliveries. The ecargo bike has a top of the range, Bosch ecargo line motor, which enables it to power up some of the steepest roads in Brighton.
Regina uses the cargo bike for business-to-business deliveries on Mondays and deliveries to customers on Wednesday evenings. Having two batteries means she doesn’t have to worry about running out of charge during a busy delivery round.
Customers love the delivery service as it adds a personal touch, and it enables Regina to get to know customers well. Customers also love seeing Regina coming to their front door with a rosy face, wearing her helmet on delivery round.

Action taken
Harriet was supported and advised by the eCargo Bike Accelerator project and received an Urban Arrow Large ecargo bike. It is ideal for local deliveries and dealing with Brighton & Hove’s steep hills.
Harriet is also trained to use the cargo bike and earlier this year she took it to a business trade fare in Brighton promoting her sustainable business.
Having two batteries makes a big difference particularly when I get to Hanover. Previously when we had just the one battery we lost time on deliveries as I had to come back to charge up before heading out again.
I am extremely pleased to have an eCargo bike for our deliveries at Harriet’s of Hove. It really fits within our whole business’ ethos and makes sense for us to be able to deliver fuel free and super sustainably. The bike is instantly recognised as a force for positive change and our customers love receiving their deliveries in this way, whether to customers at their home or at work to their own businesses/workplaces. We very much consider our bike a ‘member of the team’ and honestly couldn’t imagine doing deliveries without it
Advantages for Harriet's of Hove switching to ecargo have been:
- saving on time and money
- easier to park
- more personalised deliveries
- nearly 600 km covered saving 0.51 tonnes of CO2e
Switching to cargo bikes reduces the environmental and social impact of deliveries and services in our cities. This contributes towards Brighton & Hove City Council’s Carbon Neutral 2030 goal.
