About Good Cycle Repair
Good Cycle Repair provides mobile Brighton-based bike repairs.
Liam, the founder of Good Cycle Repair, has been working as a professional cycle technician since the year 2000.

Spotlight on former operations
Liam, founder of Good Cycle Repair, is an experienced bike mechanic, who was working in a bike shop in Brighton. He is also the in-house mechanic for Zedify, Brighton & Hove’s local bike courier service.
He wanted to offer bike repair directly on the key bike routes in Brighton & Hove, which would require a temporary, portable setup.
Using a motor vehicle for this would lead to problems with parking as well as contributing to local air pollution and congestion.

"Being on the main cycle routes gets me plenty of passing trade – people stop and say hello! I can fix nearly everything on site so I’m keeping people moving and making their bikes safer as a result.”
Action taken
Good Cycle Repair was set up and, using support and advice from the eCargo Bike Accelerator project, received a cargo bike specially selected for their needs.
“The bike is great to ride despite all my heavy equipment – I carry a lot of different tools and spare parts, so I’m at the upper end of the bike’s capacity.
I have everything neatly organised, and I can use the bike as a workbench too.”
Outcome
Thanks to the eCargo bike, Good Cycle Repair can operate at 2 different locations in Brighton & Hove, as well as offering home visits on weekends.
“I can do nearly all jobs on-site, but I’m able to offer home visits for complex jobs or for people with limited mobility.
I expect to do more home visits over winter when there’s less passing trade, which is a big advantage of this setup - it gives me a lot of freedom and flexibility.”
Bike design
The image below shows the design of the eCargo bike Good Cycle Repair uses.
The bike is manufactured by Omnium.
The bike has:
- a 150kg payload, including the rider
- an extendable cargo area which accommodates the customer's bike and doubles as a workbench
- a lightweight and agile design

Switching to cargo bikes reduces the environmental and social impact of deliveries in our cities. This contributes towards Brighton & Hove City Council’s Carbon Neutral 2030 goal.
