Brighton & Hove Inclusion Service (BHISS) works with nurseries, playgroups and childminders registered with Ofsted, as well as schools and colleges to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and their families.
Our service includes educational psychologists, specialist teachers and practitioners in learning and communication and social, emotional and mental health.
We also work closely with the NHS speech and language therapy service to help children develop their communication skills.

Nurseries, playgroups and childminders registered with Ofsted and schools and colleges provide support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
They’ll contact us if they need extra support to meet your child’s needs.
We work closely with the NHS speech and language therapy service to help children develop their communication skills.
If a child has significant or complex special educational needs, we may work with the Brighton & Hove City Council SEN team and professionals in health and social care. For example, we may assess and advise on a child’s needs and outcomes through an Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment.
If a child has an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, we may be involved in the annual review or the transition plan that supports them as they become an adult.
We always involve children, parents, carers and families to help us plan support for children who have special educational needs or disabilities.
Your child's childcare provider, school or college will talk to you about your child’s needs before they contact us for support.
Talk to the childcare provider, school, college if you think your child needs support from us.
Phone lines are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4:30pm on Fridays.
