Independent living information
Information about independent living in easy read.

Occupational Therapy is when you are given help to be more independent if you have a long-term illness.

We are part of Brighton & Hove City Council and our team is called:
Independent Living Service

To get help from this service you must:
- be a Brighton & Hove resident
- have a disability, long term illness, or health problem that makes your daily living difficult.

We try to help people to live safe and well at home to do day to day things such as:

- getting in and out of bed
- getting on and off the toilet
- getting in and out of the shower or bath

- getting on and off your armchair or sofa
- getting in and out of your home

You will be seen in your own home.
You can have a family member or friend with you.

You can choose a man or woman to help you if you feel uncomfortable.
You do not have to pay.
You will have to wait for a home visit.

You will receive a letter.
This letter will say that we will contact you when we are able to visit you at home.

There might be times when we may need to share your information with other professionals, like your GP.
This is so we can make sure we give you the best support possible.
