Anti-racist action in children's services
Find out about our anti-racist action plan developed with staff working in children's services.
Brighton & Hove is committed to becoming an anti-racist council
In children’s social work we prioritise the work we need to do to achieve this.
We've developed an anti-racist action plan with our staff and created a new and innovative permanent post for an Anti-Racist Lead Practitioner.
‘Thank you for leading the anti-racist group discussions. I have found them so invaluable for my development both on a professional and personal level’.
Challenging discrimination and racism
We have created a whole system of relationship-based social work with children and families.
This means that social workers feel safe and supported and can build relationships with families and use these relationships to help create change. A key part of this model is challenging discrimination and racism. The model is making a difference for our social workers, their practice, and the families that we serve.
‘Social workers’ morale is high and they enjoy working in Brighton & Hove’ Ofsted.
‘Best thing about working for the Council – the equalities and anti-racist work, especially in social work’. Social worker.
‘You have been consistent and always here for me. Without you, things would have been completely different for me’ .Young person’s feedback for their social worker
