Who is responsible for a repair to your home
As your landlord, Brighton & Hove City Council is responsible for the majority of repairs to your home and to communal areas. However, there are some repairs you are responsible for.
Repairs tenants are responsible for
You are normally responsible for repairs to:
- clothes lines and rotary driers
- cookers
- internal decoration
- internal doors
- fencing
- floor coverings (except kitchens, bathrooms and toilets)
- keys
- toilet seats
- sinks and bath plugs and chains
- utilities - gas, electricity, water, TV
This list of repairs is not exhaustive, and exceptions are made in individual cases with special circumstances.
