Empty sites in Kensington Street have played host to some fabulous street art over recent years.
The sites are now being developed to provide 12 much needed new affordable rented council homes. These photographs have been taken to be held as records in The Keep for future generations to see and will be on display in Jubilee Library in March.
The city centre development is the latest phase of the council’s New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme, building much needed new council housing across the city.
Nine flats and three houses are being built on three small pockets of council-owned land, previously used for parking. There will be one two-bedroom house, and the rest will be one-bedroom, including a wheelchair accessible flat. The homes are due to be completed in summer 2019.
The photos of the street art will be on display in Jubilee Library from 19 March to 25 March 2018.
They are also being sent to The Keep archives and historical resources centre to provide a permanent record.
The New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme is aiming to deliver at least 500 new homes on council-owned land. A total of 131 new council homes will be completed during the current financial year (2017/18) – 57 flats at Kite Place in Whitehawk, 29 flats at Hobby Place in Whitehawk, and 45 flats at Brooke Mead Extra Care scheme in Albion Street, Brighton.
