Events are taking place across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex to mark this year’s 16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls.
16 Days of Action is a global campaign, seeking to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.
Starting on Monday 25 November, the UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women, 16 Days of Action runs until Human Rights Day on Tuesday 10 December.
A ‘Reclaim the Night’ demonstration is taking place in Brighton city centre on Friday 22 November to protest street harassment and rape culture.
It starts with a march from Brighton Station at 6pm to a rally in the Old Steine before continuing to the Patterns venue. All genders welcome.
On Saturday 7 December, RISE will be holding a party to celebrate their 25th anniversary at St Augustine’s Event Centre in Stanford Avenue, Brighton.
The celebration starts at 4pm and includes a history and art exhibition in the afternoon, including a Clothes Line Project displaying service-users’ artwork, followed by a fun-filled evening of entertainment.

The start of the initiative also marks White Ribbon Day, part of a campaign encouraging community leaders to lead by example.
The White Ribbon Campaign recognises the positive role that men play in preventing violence against women, based on the understanding that most men are not violent.
It is a means for men to speak out against violence and abuse and to safely challenge the attitudes and behaviours of a minority of men who use or condone violence against women.
White Ribbon Status – which Brighton & Hove secured in 2013, 2015 and 2017 – is awarded to organisations which demonstrate their commitment to stopping violence against women.
You can also show your support for the campaign all year round by making the promise never to commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women and girls in all forms by wearing a white ribbon on the day.
