Residents living near a section of the A23 are being given the opportunity to have their say on walking and cycling improvement plans for the area.
Four drop-in sessions are taking place next week in which people who live around the area between Argyle Road and Cumberland Road can see detailed designs for phase one of the scheme.

Postcards have also been sent to residents living around the scheme with information about the drop-in sessions.

The council has received government funding to improve the A23 and provide a safer, more attractive environment for all who use it, including people who walk and cycle, public transport users and drivers.
Following a six-week consultation in early 2021, a report was presented to the council’s Environment, Transport, and Sustainability (ETS) committee in July 2021. The committee approved the scheme to continue to the next development stage, and to further engage with stakeholders and residents.
Since the July 2021 ETS committee meeting the scheme designs have undergone further development and the decision has been taken to deliver the improvements in a phased approach with three main phase areas:
Following the consultation activities, the designs will be revised to reflect our findings, progressed to detailed design stage, and presented to the ETS committee for approval in spring 2022.
Phases 2 & 3 of the scheme will undergo further development, engagement, and approvals in 2022. Information will be provided on the One Journey Better webpage as and when it becomes available.

“Only by creating an infrastructure that better supports walking and cycling will we give residents and visitors the opportunity to make sustainable travel choices that will help us reach our goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.
“The A23 is a key travel corridor for getting in and out of the city and I would urge all residents in the area to have their say on the proposals.”
