Another successful ‘Big Clean’ event!
Councillors led a successful ‘City Centre Big Clean’ on Saturday 25 November.
More than 20 councillors took part in cleaning up the city to make sure our city is one we can be proud of.
They removed stickers, cleaned graffiti tagging and repainted bins in the city centre as part of our ‘Big Clean’ event series.
Graffiti tags, stickers and bins
Everyone taking part in the City Centre Big Clean separated into 3 groups to clean different areas of the city centre.
They focussed on the area around Brighton Train Station and Queens Road, West Street, New Road, Jubilee Street and St James Street.
Working together to clean up the city centre
Councillors were joined by residents, businesses, Tidy Up Team members and students from BHASVIC.
Our graffiti team also joined the event to help with cleaning graffiti tagging.
As well as providing equipment for the day, Cityclean operatives based across the city centre continued with their usual litter picking, jet washing and graffiti cleaning tasks and helped with the event’s activities if they were in the area.
Scrubbed, scraped and painted
Councillor Tim Rowkins, Chair of the City Environment, South Downs and The Sea Committee, said: “Our ‘Big Clean’ event series is an important part of our work to create a better Brighton & Hove and I’m very pleased we had such a successful day cleaning up our city centre.
“We scrubbed, scraped and painted to create a more positive and attractive environment for residents and businesses in the city, and for visitors when they get off the train and explore our beautiful city.
“It was fantastic to see so many volunteers, businesses and Cityclean operatives join us on the day and I’d like to thank them for their incredible hard work and commitment.
“We’re working very hard to improve council services to maintain the look and feel of the city to a higher standard, but in the meantime, we’re keen to roll up our sleeves, put on some high vis and get involved.”
