Councillors will this afternoon be asked to approve measures to continue the rollout of cycle hangars across Brighton & Hove.
Members of the new Transport and Sustainability committee will discuss the cycle hangars project when it meets at 4pm on Thursday 6 July.
Among the recommendations, is continuing the rollout of cycle hangars, bringing the city’s total up to 150 – enough space for 900 bikes.
The rollout was paused last autumn following a request by councillors for a review.
Members of the committee will also be asked to vote on exploring options to bring the management and maintenance of the cycle hangar scheme in house in the future, with the council receiving income directly from the hangar rentals.

Hugely popular
The cycle hangars have been in huge demand since they were installed.
Within weeks of the first 20 going in last summer, all 120 spaces were filled.
Of the current 426 places available, all are being used with over a thousand people on a waiting list for a space should they become available.
Each space currently costs £60 per year, £39 for six months or £24 for three months.

Meeting the demand of our residents
Councillor Trevor Muten, Chair of the Transport and Sustainability committee said: “It’s clear there is huge demand for cycle storage from residents and, if agreed, continuing the installation of 79 more hangars will certainly help meet this need.
“It’s important we look at the long-term management of the scheme and so I think it would be a good chance for us to explore what benefits an ‘in-house’ option could provide in the future.
“We want to give residents the best options and infrastructure to make inclusive active travel choices that work for all. Cycle hangars give people without storage space an affordable way to keep their bikes safe and secure.”
