Flock by bus this half term with free kids’ travel

With October half term fast approaching, why not take in a city-wide art trail by bus?

Thanks to fare offers for young people, it’s a great time to see the Brighton & Hove Shaun by the Sea artwork dotted around the city.

More than 40 individually designed sculptures are currently being displayed on our streets, parks and public areas to raise money to enable local charity Martlets to keep caring for people with terminal illnesses.

With funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) through our Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), families and young people can take advantage of some great fare offers at the same time.

• Free travel by up to four children or young people aged 19 or under when accompanied by a fare paying adult or an adult concessionary pass holder. This offer applies at all times but excludes night-time routes and journeys.
• 50p single journey tickets for unaccompanied children or young people under 19. This offer applies at off peak times only (after 6pm on school days), and any time on Saturdays, Sundays, Public Holidays and school holidays but excludes nighttime routes and journeys.
• All day bus travel for £5

Councillor Trevor Muten, Chair of the Transport and Sustainability committee said: “The art trail is fantastic. It’s been great to see the bright and colourful sheep across the city, all supporting such an amazing charity.

“The discounted fares we’re able to offer through the Bus Service Improvement Plan means going by bus is an affordable way to see it for the whole family.

“Working in partnership with our local bus operators and thanks to the BSIP funding, we’re improving services across the city and making it cheaper for people to travel more sustainably.

“Our aspiration is to be on course towards more affordable fares for children and young people, so that they can enjoy the benefits of travelling by bus all year round.”

The Bus Service Improvement Plan

Brighton & Hove were awarded £27.9m by the Department for Transport (DfT) to implement our Bus Service Improvement Plan in spring of 2022.

The BSIP aims to: 

• grow passenger numbers,  
• increase bus passenger satisfaction levels and, 
• improve bus reliability.
