New bins and new waste collection round

We’re rolling out new communal bins and introducing a new afternoon waste collection round to catch up on any missed collections.

This is all part of our plan to improve our refuse and recycling service.

Catching up with missed collections

We’ve introduced a new afternoon collection round.

The new round can be deployed anywhere in the city and will give us greater flexibility to respond to demand and catch up on any missed collections quickly.

Please continue to report any missed bin and box collections using our online missed bin or box collection form.

Rolling out new communal bins

We've also recently ordered 24 brand new communal refuse bins.

These will replace old bins we’re unable to fix in communal bin areas as part of our communal bin replacement programme. 

These have been installed in 5 different wards: Brunswick & Adelaide, Queen’s Park, Preston Park, Regency and West Hill & North Laine.

We’ll be replacing more refuse and recycling bins around the city over the next 3 years.

Reusing and recycling old bins

The old broken bins are being taken apart and we’ll hold on to parts we can reuse to mend other bins around the city.

Parts of bins we can’t use are taken to a scrap metal recycling service.

Improving our service 

Councillor Tim Rowkins, Chair of the City Environment, South Downs and The Sea Committee, said: “As part of our plan to improve our waste collection service, we’re introducing a new afternoon round that can go wherever it is needed. 

“This will help us to stay on top of any missed collections and will improve the overall reliability of the service.

“If your collection is missed, please leave your bins out and we’ll aim to pick up later in the day.

“We’re also rolling out new communal refuse and recycling bins to replace old ones. 

“Their locations have been chosen based on which bins needed replacing the most, such as those that are beyond repair or have missing lids.

“This is all part of our commitment to clean up the city and improve our basic services.”
