Free net zero workshop will support tourism and hospitality businesses
Tourism and hospitality business owners in Brighton & Hove can benefit from a free workshop to help them save money on energy, reduce waste costs and work towards carbon net zero.
Organised by the University of Brighton’s Clean Growth UK, in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, the Net Zero 360 Tourism Workshop will be held at Saltdean Lido on 24 October.
Growing demand
Responding to a growing demand for sustainable tourism options, the all-day event is designed to equip local tourism and hospitality business owners with the tools and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly eco-conscious market, and to save money or energy and reduce waste costs.
Participants will benefit from an interactive training session that covers:
- The impact of net zero for the tourism and hospitality sector
- Carbon footprint measurement and reduction strategies using Clean Growth UK’s free-to-use carbon calculator
- Quick wins that will cut energy costs
- Effective communication of sustainability efforts in marketing
- Real-life case studies from the tourism and hospitality industry
The 1-day workshop is funded by the UK government through Brighton & Hove City Council’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
Future-proofing
Councillor Tim Rowkins, Cabinet member for Environment and Net Zero, said: “The economy here in Brighton & Hove is heavily reliant on tourism and hospitality, and so reducing emissions in this sector is essential.
‘According to a UK Sustainability in Travel Market Report, 75% of Britons are keen to minimise their environmental impact while travelling, so it's crucial that our local tourism and hospitality businesses adapt to become more sustainable.
“This workshop will help business owners not only meet consumer expectations, but also become more profitable by cutting costs and future-proofing their businesses.”
Tailored plan
The event will be co-facilitated by Small99, which specialises in sustainability for small businesses and takes a practical approach to helping them achieve net zero, and Clean Growth UK, which is based in Brighton, and provides local expertise in small business innovation and decarbonisation.
Attendees will leave with a tailored plan to reduce carbon reduction, positioning them to attract environmentally conscious customers and employees, while optimising their operations and cutting costs.
