Plans for Madeira Terrace progress update events announced
Plans for quarterly events to update local residents and businesses on the progress of renovation work at Madeira Terrace have been announced.
The first event will take place at Sea Lanes on Wednesday 29 January next year.
Phase one of the renovation is now underway and teams from lead contractor Mackley have started work on site. Work to restore the first 28 arches and build a new, fully accessible lift is expected to be completed in summer 2026.
Councillor Jacob Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Finance and City Regeneration, said: “During what has been a lengthy process to develop plans to restore the Terrace we have had invaluable input and support from an Advisory Panel of community representatives, including residents, event organisers, businesses and those experienced in conservation of the built and natural environment.
“I would like to thank everyone who has given their time and energy to be part of the panel during the development and planning of this historic project.
“With activity now started on site we want to ensure local residents and business are kept in the picture on the progress of work and how it could affect them. We will be working closely with Mackley to try to provide the best possible communications and these new events will be an important part of that.
“As well as sharing information on upcoming work and its impacts on access to the area, the events will provide a chance to meet and ask questions of the council and Mackley teams leading the project. I hope as many residents and local businesses as possible will come.”
Details of how to reserve a place at the first Progress Update event will be announced in early January.
